Equipment

One LEGO Mindstorms NXT robotics kit plus software per team

· Borrow

If you are in Northern Colorado and part of a school team, Action Works has a limited number of NXT kits avaible to use for $25 per semester. Send an email to liz.rayment@ action-works.org (without the space) to see if one is available. Please read the rules first to see if your team can abide by them.

· Purchase

You can either purchase your team NXT robot kit through FIRST if you are going to register a team or you can buy the components through LEGO Education:

NXT Education Base set http://www.legoeducation.us/store/detail.aspx?ID=1263 $279.95

Resource kit:

http://www.legoeducation.us/eng/product/lego_mindstorms_education_resource_set/2214 $99.95

Software http://www.legoeducation.us/store/detail.aspx?ID=1670 $79.95 Shipping is additional, 8% I think.

Field Kit

· You must have an FLL registration ($225 + shipping) if you want to purchase the current year’s Field Kit (~$75 – mat & LEGO mission models that must be assembled).  Register and purchase the Field Kit at:http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/fll/content.aspx?id=17723

The Thompson School District reimburses $225 for 1 FLL registration per TSD participating school.  Your team or school will need to come up with the money for the field kit. Commonly students are asked to contribute $10-$20 to participate to cover costs, with provisions for those who cannot, or the PTA funds it.

If you have multiple teams that can share a Field Kit by practicing at different times, you will only need registration for the additional team(s) if the team(s) would like to participate at an FLL Qualifier ($75). No FLL registration is required to participate in the Thompson Robotics Expo FLL Scrimmage ($30). Some schools save money by attending or hosting a scrimmage and either sending the top performing team or no team at all to a Qualifier with the 1 FLL registration that was required to purchase the Field Kit.

Event Registration

You can register for the Thompson Robotics EXPO FLL Scrimmage at: www.action-works.org/register. You will need to find one volunteer for us per team.  Volunteers can register to help us at www.action-works.org/volunteer .

You can register for an FLL Qualifier at www.coloradofirst.org. You will be required to find 2 volunteers for a Qualifier should your team attend one.
